BAY AND MORNEAU TAKE PART IN THE ALL-STAR GAME
July 15, 2009 Both Jason Bay (Trail, B.C.) and Justin Morneau (New Westminster, B.C.) had a fantastic time at the All-Star game and had the opportunity to play several innings each. Bay went 1-2 with a single and Morneau went 0-2, but was robbed by Jason Werth in the 9th inning when he caught Morneau's screaming line drive into the gap. Read more HERE.

July 12, 2009 Four Canadians took part in the 2009 Futures game during the All-Star events: Brett Lawrie (Langley, B.C.) Tyson Gillies (Vancouver, B.C.) Rene Tosoni (Toronto, ON) and Nick Weglarz (Stevensville, ON). However, Rene stole the show when he came home with the games MVP award after getting the game winning hit. Read more HERE.
JUSTIN MORNEAU AL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
July 7, 2009 Twins first baseman Justin Morneau, who on Sunday was named to the American League All-Star team for the third straight year, was named the American League Player of the Week presented by Bank of America on Monday for the period ending July 5. Read more HERE.
JASON BAY AND JUSTIN MORNEAU ARE 2009 ALL-STARS
July 6, 2009 Jason Bay (Trail, B.C.) and Justin Morneau (New Westminister, B.C.) are members of the 2009 American League All-Star Team. Bay will be appearing in his 3rd All-Star game (2005, 06-starter) and Morneau will be appearing in his 3rd straight All-Star game.

Boys and girls, 9-15, beginners or All-Stars welcome
St. Marys - The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame's KIDS ON DECK 2009 program will run from July 6-11, and there is still room available for interested youth. The week-long camp that focuses on baseball FUNdamentals is designed for boys and girls, aged 9-15, beginners to All-Stars. Players are grouped and taught by age and skill level.
"Besides the excellent team of instructors, the best and most unique thing about our camp is that players are assessed on measurable baseball skills they day the arrive and the day they depart, and we proudly boast an average improvement rate of thirty percent," said Ball Hall president & CEO and camp director Tom Valcke.

CANADIAN PLAYERS OF THE MONTH FOR JUNE
July 2, 2009 Mark Teahen (Canadian Citizen) and Ryan Dempster (Sechelt, B.C.) have won the June Canadian Players of the Month award. Teahen played in 25 games while collecting 27 hits, 5 doubles, 3 homeruns, 11 RBI's and scoring 13 runs while batting .297 with a .473 SLG%. Dempster started 5 games while pitching 30.2 innings, striking out 23 and compiling a 3.23ERA.

CANADIAN TRIPLE A ALL-STARS
July 2, 2009 Chris Robinson (Dorchester, ON) and RJ Swindle (Vancouver, B.C.) will represent Canada at the Triple A All-Star game on July 15. Robinson plays for the Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs) and is hitting .319 over 54 games with 13 doubles and 7 stolen bases. Swindle plays for the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers) and has a 1.03 ERA over 24 games including 35 innings pitched and 35 K's. Read more HERE.

July 1, 2009 Four Canadians are playing in the 2009 Futures game on July 12th at the 2009 All-Star events in St. Louis. Brett Lawrie (Langley, B.C.) plays for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee Brewers). He has played in 63 games while batting .269. Tyson Gillies (Vancouver, B.C.) plays for the High Desert Mavericks (Seattle Mariners). He has played in 68 games while batting .325. Rene Tosoni (Toronto, ON) plays for the New Britain Rock Cats (Minnesota Twins). He has played in 73 games while batting .280. Nick Weglarz (Stevensville, ON) plays for the Akron Aeros (Cleveland Indians). He has played in 73 games while batting .248.
2009 FIRST YEAR MLB PLAYERS DRAFT

Bedard started 4 games with a 2.31 ERA over 23.1 innings with 22 strikeouts.

FORMER CY YOUNG WINNER GAGNE SIGNS WITH CAN-AM LEAGUE
May 26, 2009 By Alden Gonzalez / MLB.com Months after being released from the Brewers, former Cy Young Award-winning closer Eric Gagne has apparently landed back on his feet -- in Canada. Gagne signed a contract with the Quebec Capitales of the Can-Am League on Tuesday, according to Canoe.ca, which said he is expected to be at the city's Stade Municipal to work himself back into a starter -- which he did at the beginning of his career. FERGIE JENKINS HAS HIS NUMBER RETIRED
May 3, 2009 By Carrie Muskat / MLB.com CHICAGO -- One pitcher is in the Hall of Fame, the other will be soon. Both could locate a fastball and didn't believe a quality start was six innings. When Fergie Jenkins and Greg Maddux took the mound, they wanted to finish what they started. On Sunday, Jenkins and Maddux were honored by the Cubs as the No. 31, which both pitchers wore, was retired. No. 31 joined No. 10 (Ron Santo), No. 14 (Ernie Banks), No. 23 (Ryne Sandberg), and No. 26 (Billy Williams) in being retired by the Cubs.
